14th March – 26th April
William Leng was a self taught painter, agricultural worker and special constable. He painted scenes of rural life in Ryedale remembered from his life and childhood during the late 19th and early 20th century. Leng is a relatively unknown figure outside of Ryedale but should be considered part of a tradition of naïve painting in British art.
The exhibition will include animated responses to Leng’s paintings made by local children during a summer school in 2008.
