Artist : Lecturer : Designer : Teacher
15th-21st June
This exhibition features the work of individuals who have a double identity. As the title of the exhibition suggests the teachers and lecturers of Yorkshire Coast College are also artists and designers in their own right. The dual identities are in fact complimentary and vital to the vibrancy of the Visual Art Department at YCC.
The work shown in the exhibition demonstrates the breadth of expertise and approach of the teaching staff at the college. Between them they boast regional, national and international profiles. Within the team fine artists, illustrators, textile artists, photographers, graphic, 3D and costume designers work alongside each other, collaborate and share experiences.
To be an active artist or designer shows commitment to teaching and to the learners of YCC. To be involved in the current debates within your professional field involves the learners too. The professional world comes into the classroom, studio and workshop and the classroom in turn becomes part of the professional world. This dynamic environment gives the learners a very real experience and inspires them as they go on to work or higher study.
To be a practitioner is to be good teacher. To encourage learning you have to keep learning yourself. To practice what you preach is essential.
Wednesday 17th June 11am –4pm
Andy Black (Lecturer In Fine Art at YCC) will be at the Gallery to talk about the work on display and offer advice and guidance to potential students thinking about studying art and design. Fellow teachers or career guidance officers wanting to know more about YCC are also welcome. Any schools wanting to book a slot can do so by contacting Andy Black on 01723 361960 or at ank@ycoastco.ac.uk.
